A US firm, specialising in medical devices, is set to create 79 new jobs in Carrick-On-Shannon as part of an expansion initiative.

VistaMed is looking to enlarge its R&D activities and further develop its manufacturing operations in the Leitrim area. The plan has been supported by Enterprise Ireland.

Minister for Jobs, Richard Bruton, described this jobs boost as vital and has also welcomed the €7.2 million the Irish economy will receive.

“As I have said before, in order to create the jobs we so badly need we must not only deliver high levels of multinational investment, but also create an indigenous engine of growth by driving a step-change in the performance of our domestic exporters,” said Mr. Bruton.

“Indigenous exports provide three times more benefit to the Irish economy than multinational exports.”

VistaMed currently has two bases in Carrick-on-Shannon and Rooskey. VistaMed designs, develops and manufactures various medical devices including catheters and supporting apparatus.
