SOLAS to Replace FAS
The Government has announced a new training and education authority that will be run by the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Education. The new authority will replace FAS.
Ruairí Quinn, Minister for Education and Skills, has said that the new authority will not train as many construction apprentices as FAS used to. Instead the new authority will concentrate on developing skills in areas of potential job growth.
The Construction Industry Federation has voiced concerns about future training in the sector, saying that they were worried that thousands of apprentices may have lost their jobs half way through training due to the collapse of the sector.
